![]() The coach/teacher has a dashboard that shows their students, what they have worked on, how long they spent, what problems they got wrong, and so on. Khan Academy has made some great advancements in recent months that make it much easier for a teacher - or parent - to supervise a full blown stand alone curriculum. We used this numerous times in the last school year to supplement whatever the kids were currently learning. The videos are engaging and simple - basically a showing a digital blackboard with the voice of founder Salman Khan explaining the material. They have the different topics organized into something called a Knowledge Tree - basically a map that guides you to learn A and B before trying to learn C. is a totally free web site with thousands of short videos on a variety of subjects though the vast majority are math. ![]() There are probably a thousand ways to skin this cat and we've settled on Khan Academy as one of easiest ways to get started. ![]() Here at the Bumpkin household we are trying a version of this to supplement the kids' public school education. Flip Teaching - discussed in a recent column - is a style of teaching where students learn the material at home and use class time for doing homework and getting help from the instructor if needed. ![]()
